Easter & Good Friday At Cherry Hills
We would like to make you aware of our Good Friday and Easter Sunday schedule so you can plan accordingly.
On Good Friday, April 19th we’ll gather at 5:30 & 7:30 p.m. in the Worship Center. We will gather for a Tenebrae service to remember and reflect on what Jesus has done for us. The word Tenebrae simply means “shadows” or “darkness” in Latin. We will hear the passion story retold as candles are extinguished as we move from light to dark in the room. The service will end with communion in silence.
Parents: Childcare is available for ages birth through Kindergarten for both services. Good Friday is one of three special services we look forward to every year where we gather as families, but we want to make you aware that this service will be like the Good Friday services we’ve done the past few years. The service will have a somber tone, the room will gradually get darker, and we will ask people to enter and exit in silence. This can be a meaningful spiritual experience for families, but you might find it helpful to talk with and prepare your child for this unique service in advance.
Then on Easter Sunday morning, April 21st, join us for any of our regular service times: 8:00, 9:30 & 11:00 a.m.—3 identical services (children’s ministry is offered at 9:30 & 11:00). Would you consider the following?
- Will you attend 8:00 or 11:00 to make room for our guests?
- Will you carpool & park further out to free the closer spots for our guests?
- Will you invite someone? Many people find that guests are even more receptive to an invitation at Easter.
- Will you sit closer to the front and scoot to the middle of the row? This will free up more seating near the aisles and the back where visitors tend to be more comfortable.
We pray this information is helpful as you plan. And please join us as we pray for these special services.

Vacation Bible Blast
We are excited to announce our Vacation Bible Blast dates for this summer: Sunday, July 14- Thursday, July 18, 6:00-8:30 p.m. The Blast is a 5-day experience for kids who have completed Kindergarten-4th grade. It brings the Bible alive through games, crafts, snacks and worship.
The theme for The Blast this year is ROAR: Life is Wild…God is Good! Kids have an opportunity to learn Bible stories, but also uncover the truths that are relevant and applicable to their lives. We’ll be journeying through the book of Exodus and discovering God’s goodness and faithfulness to the Israelites as he led them out of captivity.
Registration for Vacation Bible Blast will begin in May!
We ask our church family to help us in these ways:
Invite! Prayerfully consider how you’ll use The Blast as an outreach tool for the elementary children you know. The Blast is open to all elementary children in our community. But we want our church to begin praying now for the children and families they know without a church home. Prayerfully consider inviting these children and offering them help with transportation each night to The Blast!
Volunteer! We’ll need a HUGE TEAM to pull off this fun week! Station leaders will help kids discover God’s Word at games, crafts, snacks and Bible Adventures. Crew Leaders will build relationships with their crew of kids while leading them through each station. We’ll also need volunteers to help with decorating, registration, greeting, donating snacks, food and behind the scenes prep. Begin praying now about the part God is asking you to play in this impactful event.
Pray! Apart from Jesus we can do nothing (John 15:5). Begin praying now for God’s guidance and favor as we embark on this exciting journey!
Cherry Hills feels it is important to encourage our college students to be salt and light on their campuses. The Reverend Gary & Janie Nelsen Higher Education Scholarship annually awards students for maintaining a Christ-centered lifestyle and becoming an active part of a campus Christian organization or local church ministry. The Nelsen Scholarship is open to any full-time student entering their junior or senior year of college.
Cherry Hills also feels it is important to encourage and support students who have been called to full-time Christian service, such as pastoral or missionary service. The Christian Service Scholarship is open to college juniors or seniors, graduate students, or individuals attending specific service training programs.
All scholarship applicants must be members of Cherry Hills, and students may not receive both scholarships. Application forms–which include more information–are available at the Ministry Center, using the above links, or by contacting the church office. All application materials must be submitted to the church office no later than April 1, 2019.
If you would like to help our college students by designating a monetary gift to either of these two scholarship funds, please feel free to do so.
