An emerging adult is a post-high school 20-something who’s in the early stages of the journey of adulthood. As Ronald Rolheiser says, maturing is about the movement from struggling to get our lives together toward struggling to give our lives away. We never stop struggling, but we become proficient at some of the basics of “adulting” over time and increasingly are able to shift our vision toward the generative life of love found in God. We need spaces of community and formation to help us get there, and that’s why emerging adult ministry matters. We want to be an intergenerational church that’s incorporating young people into the life of the church and the mission of God.
